The name was a gift. A sailor friend painted it on a signboard for a young couple's push-cart stall, and it came true at every lunch rush since.
In the 1920s, Haji Marlian Athar and Hajjah Rosmah Mailu arrived in Singapore and sold nasi padang from a push cart in Kampong Glam. The food was so good the queue never shortened, so “wait patiently” it was. From a cart to a Bussorah Street shophouse to today's kitchen on North Bridge Road, the recipes have never left the family.

No menu to memorise. Just point at what looks good, it's been drawing a crowd for a century.
Survey the counter of freshly-cooked dishes and pick whatever calls to you, rendang, sambal, greens, egg.
Everything is heaped, sauces and all, over a mound of fragrant steamed rice on a single plate.
With your hands or a spoon, unhurried. Good things come to those who wait patiently.

Food is awesome, good variety for a full meal or a quick snack. Good for a quiet breakfast, before stepping into the daily storm called the office. Or life.
Breakfast as early as 7am? You won't be disappointed. Came by twice during our staycay at the nearest hotel. Service was fast and friendly. Recommended.
For some local experience, try this place near Arab Street. A good variety of dishes, kuih-kuih and local drinks, and they are tasty.
