The full set-up, item by item
Our full catering set-up is a ten-item spread from rice through to drinks. It is the same Minangkabau cooking our family has served in Kampong Glam since the 1920s, prepared on the morning of your event and set out ready to serve.
For 40 guests, the standard menu is:
- White rice
- Beef rendang, slow-cooked until dark and rich
- Ayam opor, grilled chicken braised in spiced coconut milk
- Udang belado with petai, prawns and stink beans in chilli paste
- Sambal goreng, bean curd, tempeh and long beans
- Sayur lodeh, vegetables in a light coconut-milk broth
- Bagedil, fried potato patties
- Sambal belacan
- Keropok belinjo
- Cold fruit punch or teh tarik

About our halal status, plainly
Sabar Menanti is a Muslim-owned business, and our kitchen is halal-prepared. We do not hold MUIS halal certification. We say this up front because some events and organisations require certification, and you should be able to decide with the full picture.
In Singapore, halal certification is issued by MUIS, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore. A certified business has its ingredients, suppliers and premises checked against MUIS standards and displays the certificate. Muslim-owned and halal-prepared describes who runs the kitchen and how we cook, but it is not the same thing as certification.
If you are catering for family and friends who know us, many are comfortable with that. If your office, mosque committee or venue asks for a MUIS certificate, we would rather you know now than on the day. Read more on our guide to halal labels.
How the day works
Delivery runs between 11:00am and 6:00pm daily, islandwide. We bring the food in labelled chafing dishes and set it out so your guests can help themselves.
The food should be eaten within 4 hours in the small fire chafing-dish trays, in line with SFA guidelines. We collect the equipment 4 hours after set-up or at 10:00pm, whichever comes first. If you need us to pick up after 7:00pm, an additional $50 applies.
Tell us your serving time when you enquire and we will plan the delivery around it, so the rendang is hot when your guests sit down rather than an hour before they arrive.

Is 40 the right number?
The minimum for the full set-up is 40 pax and the food is cooked to the headcount you give us. If you are expecting around 40 but are not sure, it is worth counting carefully, including the children, the helpers in the kitchen and anyone who usually arrives late.
If your group ends up well under 40, our individually packed bento sets or a la carte bulk trays may suit you better. If you are planning prayers at home, our tahlil and kenduri guide covers how families usually order.
Booking and terms
Place your order at least five working days before the event. Bookings are subject to availability. Any change to the standard menu incurs additional charges and is subject to approval, and cancellations made less than 48 hours before the event are not refunded.
To book, send your date, headcount and delivery address through our catering page, call +65 6291 0109, or WhatsApp +65 8891 5262.
